Details1967 Switzerland/ Helvetia 2 franc coin. This gem is uncirculated and never been touched except outer rim for these pics. These coins of this design were made in 1/2, 1 and 2 franc. The 2 franc came into circulation 1850 / 1857 and was a seated Helvetia. It weighed 10 grams and was 90% silver. 1860 it dropped to 80% silver From 1874 to 1967 it was the standing Helvetia made of 83.5% silver. 1967 was the LAST YEAR of the silver 2 franc. Made of cupronickel from 1968 forward. The woman on these coins represents the personification of the Swiss Confederation (much like lady liberty in USA). Helvetia translates to Swiss Confederation. Which came after the disintegration of the Napoleonic Helvetic Republic and Switzerland was recognized as a federal state in 1848.
